4 morning or evening classes in 2-week sections, offered four times in July and August. Additional sections may be added, if interest warrants.
Skill level 2: basic knowledge of your own sewing machine.
This halter is fashionable but relatively easy to make, and the pattern includes a wide range of women's sizes and seperate pieces for girls-teens. It's great for beginners who know how to operate their sewing machine but, well… haven't really made much or, ever worked from a pattern.
The halter features a lined front and single layer back, with "forgiving" fit and few enough seams to let a boldly patterned fabric distract from beginner "learning experiences".
Don't wear halters? Well, you might change your mind, to think about this one, paired with pj bottoms (hmm, a pj pants class after this one?) Or, make one for your daughter or niece to take advantage of the class and make a cute gift.
The class will cover
• proper layout of pattern pieces
• cutting & marking basics
• assembly techinques and sequences
• seam finishing techniques
• following pattern instructions
There will be sewing in class and probably, a little "homework".
PATTERN & MATERIALS
You will need to purchased the "Sun & Surf Halter" pattern, if you haven't already
You also will need to have and prepare:
• 100% cotton fashion fabric
• cotton muslin for the lining
• elastic and thread,
Unfortunately, there are not (yet) as many fabrics on the website as there are in the store — but, it's more fun to pick them out in person anyway! You are welcome to register and get the pattern in person or, online. NOTE: Please purchase your materials ahead of time so you can pre-wash & press the fabrics and muslin before the first day of class.
SUPPLIES
You will need to bring the following items to class. The store offers all of them for sale.
• your own sewing machine
• shears for cutting fabric
• scissors for snipping threads
• straight pins and pincushion
• a safety pin
• tape measure
• tracing wheel & transfer paper or, a temporary fabric marking pen/pencil
• pencil for making notes on your pattern or taking notes in class.
CLASS SIZE & AGE GROUPS
There is a maximum of 4 spaces available in any one section of the class. Students must be at least 18 years old to register themselves. A responsible adult can register for child and themself (2 registrations) or, can pre-register to populate an additional kids-only section (dates & time to be determined).
Don't forget to pre-order the pattern, if you don't already have it!
